2012 UFC Middleweight Top 5 Rankings

  1. Anderson Silva

Returning from injury was Silva who retained his title in a rematch against his bitter rival Sonnen. The win keeps him at number one and a new generation of middleweights await him next year.

2. Chael Sonnen

With Munoz injured, Sonnen beats late replacement Bisping to earn himself a rematch against the champion in what would be his last middleweight fight in another title loss, this time by TKO.

3. Cung Le

The former Strikeforce middleweight champion ends the year with wins over Cote and Franklin to resurface into the top five.

4. Rich Franklin

Franklin’s return to middleweight was unsuccessful as he suffered a face planting knockout loss to the man ranked above him and what would end up being the last fight of his MMA career.

5. Costas Philippou

A new contender emerged as Philippou went 3-0 beating McGee, Fukuda and Boetsch to place at number five.
