2011 UFC Middleweight Top 5 Rankings

 1. Anderson Silva   

This is the year Silva became a rockstar as he defended his middleweight title two more times by front kicking Belfort to the face and avenging his last loss to Okami.

2. Chael Sonnen      



Sonnen’s return from his title loss to Silva was successful with a submission win over Brian Stann. The win set up a title eliminator fight versus Munoz for the following year.

3. Yushin Okami  

Okami’s long awaited title shot was his only fight this year, losing by TKO. Previous wins over Munoz and Marquardt keep him at number three.

4. Mark Munoz


Former light heavyweight Munoz adds three wins to his middleweight run which included a win over Maia putting him one win away from a title shot.  

5. Nate Marquardt  


Marquardt drops to number five as his only fight was a win over unranked Dan Miller before going over to Strikeforce.

   1. Anderson Silva    It wasn’t the best calendar year for him but Silva remains number one with his most lackluster title defense against Thales Leites as new challenges await him in 2010. 2. Nate Marquardt      Marquardt solidifies his number two spot by giving Maia the first loss of his career putting him on the shortlist of possible title challengers for the champion. 3. Demian Maia  Maia added a fifth submission win in a row with his win over Sonnen but in what looked like a title eliminator he suffered his first loss to the man ranked above him. 4. Chael Sonnen   Apart from a quick submission loss in his return to the UFC, Sonnen would rebound with wins over Okami and Dan Miller to secure a ranked spot.  5. Yushin Okami   Okami drops to number five after a disappointing loss to the man ranked above him.

1. Pat Miletich  Miletich adds two more title defenses to retain the number one spot and the welterweight title. 2. LaVerne Clark  Clark picks up two more wins, one by submission and one by TKO to move up to number two just behind the champion.  3. Mikey Burnett After almost winning the welterweight title last year, Burnett moves up to number three with yet another win at UFC 18.  4. Marcelo Mello Mello’s only UFC fight is a first round TKO win which is at least enough to place him at number four. 5. Matt Hughes  The future welterweight great makes his UFC debut in the top five with a win over Valeri Ignatov.

Anderson Silva still has the record setting ten title defenses and a 16 fight winning streak which included four former world champions who were still in their prime. He would not only win, but he would win in devastating fashion. With the exception of two bad performances that everyone liked to talk about the rest of his fights were either won by a submission or spectacular knockout. 2. Robert Whittaker    At number two sits the Reaper himself, Robert Whittaker.
