2008 UFC Middleweight Top 5 Rankings

  1. Anderson Silva

Silva remains at number one adding two more title defenses to his record. One against pride middleweight champion Henderson in a title unifier and then to Cote to make him the pound for pound best fighter in the world.

2. Rich Franklin

After losing twice to the champion, Franklin would have his last middleweight fight for years to come beating Lutter before moving back up to light heavyweight.

3. Yushin Okami

Okami starts the year winning his title eliminator fight by knocking out former champion Tanner. But Cote would replace him due to injury. He would instead fight yet again before the year ends inching closer to his eventual title shot.

4. Travis Lutter

Lutter’s last fight in the UFC is a TKO loss to the former middleweight champion. A previous win over Cote keeps him relevant in the top five for now.

5. Patrick Cote

Cote remains at number five. While he did win two fights in a row against Drew McFedries and Ricardo Almeida to earn himself a title shot. He blew out his knee in his title fight, setting recovery time back for at least a year.
