2005 UFC Middleweight Top 5 Rankings

1. Rich Franklin

Franklin’s cut down to middleweight last was a success as he went 2-0 just before beating Tanner for the middleweight title. He would then successfully defend his title against Nate Quarry with a vicious punch to set up a title fight with Loiseau for next year.

2. David Loiseau

Loiseau went a perfect 3-0 this year capping it off with a win over former middleweight champion Tanner to earn himself a title shot against the man ranked above him next year.

3. Evan Tanner

Tanner stays right in the middle of the top five. Although he would win the vacant middleweight title over Terrell, he would fail to defend his title successfully, and followed by an upset loss, it kept him here at number three.

4. David Terrell

Terrell’s lone fight this year was his title fight loss to the man ranked above him. His win over Lindland last year keeps him afloat at number four.

5. Matt Lindland

Lindland’s final year in the UFC sees him go 2-0 against future title challenger, Travis Lutter and the talented Joe Doerksen. But with a loss to Terrell last year, I can only rank him so high.
