2004 UFC Middleweight Top 5 Rankings

 1. Dave Terrell

In just under 30 seconds, Terrell knocked out the number one contender earning him a vacant title shot against Tanner for next year and the number one spot this year.

2. Matt Lindland

Lindland was thought to be next in line for a title shot but unfortunately for him, the man ranked above him had other plans, giving him an early knockout loss.

3. Evan Tanner

Tanner closed out the year 2-0 and the number one contender for the vacant middleweight title as he beat Baroni yet again and delayed the launch of Robbie Lawler by submission.

4. Phil Baroni

It was another disappointing year for Baroni as his only fight was yet another loss to Tanner. He continues to live off of his previous two knockout wins.

5. Ivan Salaverry

After a brief stint at K-1, Salaverry returned to the UFC and the top five with a submission win over Tony Fryklund.
