2003 UFC Middleweight Top 4 Rankings

 1. Matt Lindland

With Bustamante going to Pride FC, Lindland was a shoe-in for the number one spot as he opened the year beating Baroni. While a loss to newcomer Vitale may have stopped the UFC from booking him in a vacant title fight, he would at least get revenge in an immediate rematch.

2. Evan Tanner

After two brutal losses at light heavyweight to Rich Franklin and Tito Ortiz, Tanner made a successful cut to middleweight stopping the heavy handed Baroni by TKO.

3. Phil Baroni

The UFC had high hopes for Baroni as he knocked out the former middleweight champion Dave Menne last year, but two losses in a row to the men ranked above him ruined his chances of fighting for the middleweight title.

4. Falaniko Vitale

Vitale debuted in the UFC with a five fight winning streak and his win over the former title challenger earns him a spot in the top five but failing to win the rematch keeps him just at number four.
