UFC Light Heavyweight Top 5 GOAT Rankings
Post the end of 2022 - No stats from 2023 were taken into consideration yet. Also - an honorable mention to Lyoto Machida and Daniel Cormier. The stats were so close they almost made the cut.
1. Jon Jones
There was never any doubt who was the light heavyweight goat as everything Jones has done is now immeasurable and probably unreachable for future champions to come. In 2011, he became the youngest champion in UFC history and remained champion until he relinquished the title in 2020. Up until writing this, he has yet to lose a fight. It seems like the only one who could defeat him was himself, for no one could match his skill and athleticism, having a combined eleven title defenses.
2. Tito Ortiz
Like Teixeira, Ortiz was another light heavyweight with longevity that lasted for the almost ten years, dating back to 1999. The only difference is that he was a dominant champion who still currently holds the second most title defenses at five. He had unbelievable strength and ground and pound and fought against the best the division had to offer win or lose.
3. Glover Teixeira
Teixeira joins the goat list for his longevity. He's been ranked in the top five since 2013 all the way to the present day and he might have lasted even longer had he not had visa issues earlier in his career. Inside of those six years he was ranked, he would close out his career winning the light heavyweight title at 42.
4. Randy Couture
The natural is also a UFC light heavyweight goat as he was ranked no lower than one or two from 2003 to 2006. Inside the span of those four years, he became a two time light heavyweight champion, beating the three biggest names in the division at the time; Vitor Belfort, Tito Ortiz and Chuck Liddell.
The Iceman Chuck Liddell comes in at number five having been ranked in the top five from 2001 to 2006 with him at number one for two and a half of those years. He may have even lasted longer on top of light heavyweight had he have fought Tito Ortiz for the title earlier and had Randy Couture stayed at heavyweight. His prime years was an endless highlight reel of knockouts and until this day he is tied for the third most title defenses in UFC history.
