Post UFC Fight Night: Edgar vs. The Korean Zombie

1. Stipe Miocic 

Miocic overcame adversity to regain the heavyweight title from Cormier in their rematch using his superior boxing to get the late stoppage win against him. This would setup a trilogy fight with him next year.

2. Daniel Cormier

 Cormier’s only fight this year was a rematich with Miocic where he went to war with him to win the first two rounds before the tide swung in Miocic’s favor. The hard fought loss drops him to number two but at least sets up a trilogy fight for next year.

3. Francis Ngannou 


Since his win over Curtis Blaydes last year, Ngannou got back on track beating two previous champions in Cain Velasquez and Dos Santos to earn him a rematch against Miocic next year. 

4. Junior Dos Santos 



Dos Santos used his boxing skills to get his first top five win in three years. The win set up a fight against Ngannou that ended in a quick stoppage loss for him.

5. Derrick Lewis  

Lewis returns from his title loss to Cormier losing to the boxing skills of Dos Santos. Although he rebounds against Ivanov he had a hard time doing it.

Chael Sonnen   Apart from a quick submission loss in his return to the UFC, Sonnen would rebound with wins over Okami and Dan Miller to secure a ranked spot.  5. Yushin Okami   Okami drops to number five after a disappointing loss to the man ranked above him.

1999 UFC Welterweight Top 5 Rankings

1. Pat Miletich  Miletich adds two more title defenses to retain the number one spot and the welterweight title. 2. LaVerne Clark  Clark picks up two more wins, one by submission and one by TKO to move up to number two just behind the champion.  3. Mikey Burnett After almost winning the welterweight title last year, Burnett moves up to number three with yet another win at UFC 18.  4. Marcelo Mello Mello’s only UFC fight is a first round TKO win which is at least enough to place him at number four. 5. Matt Hughes  The future welterweight great makes his UFC debut in the top five with a win over Valeri Ignatov.

  These rankings are now up to date as of the end of 2023  1. Anderson Silva         The story has been told time and time again. Anderson Silva still has the record setting ten title defenses and a 16 fight winning streak which included four former world champions who were still in their prime. He would not only win, but he would win in devastating fashion. With the exception of two bad performances that everyone liked to talk about the rest of his fights were either won by a submission or spectacular knockout. 2. Robert Whittaker    At number two sits the Reaper himself, Robert Whittaker. If Silva was Franklins boogeyman, Adesanya was his as he would have had six title defenses by now and a 14-fight winning streak as well if the style bender didn't exist.
