2012 UFC Light Heavyweight Top 5 Rankings

Post: UFC 155 - Dos Santos vs. Velasquez 2

1. Jon Jones

Jones remained on top of the division defending his title two more times, this time against former training partner Evans and late replacement middleweight Vitor Belfort. In those fights we saw him go the distance for the first time and also break his arm in his Belfort fight that would see him miss action for the next several months of next year.
2. Lyoto Machida
Machida’s lone fight was an impressive one punch win over Bader that earned him a title shot against Jones once more, but after he refused to take the fight on short notice when Henderson got injured, he lost his shot to Vitor Belfort.
3. Ryan Bader
Bader returns to the top five in a big way beating last year's title challenger Rampage but he ran into a straight punch from Machida which would’ve made him next in line for a title but Machida had other plans.
4. Quinton Jackson
It was not a good year for Rampage as he showed up out of shape to his fight against Bader and got outwrestled to lose a decision. He was then supposed to return against Glover Teixeira but got injured dropping him to number four.
5. Rashad Evans
With the inactivity of Dan Henderson this year, Evans returns, giving Phil Davis his first loss by outworking him and although he would lose to Jones in their title fight, he’d become the first man to go five rounds with him and only the second to win a round against him.
