2011 UFC Light Heavyweight Top 5 Rankings

  Post: UFC 141 - Lesnar vs. Overeem 

1. Jon Jones 

This was one of the best campaigns in light heavyweight history as Jones defeated three former champions to become the youngest light heavyweight champion in UFC history. There is no doubt who was number one this year as Jones won and defended his title two times in the span of one year.
2. Quinton Jackson 
Rampage beat Matt Hamill to a decision with his superior boxing to replace the injured Evans for a chance to fight the newly crowned champion Jones where he was out grappled to a submission loss in spite of being in very good shape.
3. Dan Henderson  
Henderson returned to the UFC on a three fight winning streak and the Strikeforce light heavyweight title. His first fight back was his fight of the year win over Shogun that puts him in line for a title shot against Jones next year.
4. Mauricio Rua  

Shogun returned from his injury having to fight replacement Jones for the title instead of Evans where he was unable to get going, he would then avenge his loss to Forrest Griffin where he seemed to look like the best version of himself but then goes to war with Henderson that most certainly took years off of his career and dropped him to number four.
5. Lyoto Machida 
Machida had mixed results this year, knocking out Randy Couture with a crane kick to earn a title shot against Jones, which saw him arguably win the first round only to get choked out in the second.

Nate Marquardt      Marquardt solidifies his number two spot by giving Maia the first loss of his career putting him on the shortlist of possible title challengers for the champion. 3. Demian Maia  Maia added a fifth submission win in a row with his win over Sonnen but in what looked like a title eliminator he suffered his first loss to the man ranked above him. 4. Chael Sonnen   Apart from a quick submission loss in his return to the UFC, Sonnen would rebound with wins over Okami and Dan Miller to secure a ranked spot.  5. Yushin Okami   Okami drops to number five after a disappointing loss to the man ranked above him.

1. Pat Miletich  Miletich adds two more title defenses to retain the number one spot and the welterweight title. 2. LaVerne Clark  Clark picks up two more wins, one by submission and one by TKO to move up to number two just behind the champion.  3. Mikey Burnett After almost winning the welterweight title last year, Burnett moves up to number three with yet another win at UFC 18.  4. Marcelo Mello Mello’s only UFC fight is a first round TKO win which is at least enough to place him at number four. 5. Matt Hughes  The future welterweight great makes his UFC debut in the top five with a win over Valeri Ignatov.

  These rankings are now up to date as of the end of 2023  1. Anderson Silva         The story has been told time and time again. Anderson Silva still has the record setting ten title defenses and a 16 fight winning streak which included four former world champions who were still in their prime. He would not only win, but he would win in devastating fashion. With the exception of two bad performances that everyone liked to talk about the rest of his fights were either won by a submission or spectacular knockout. 2. Robert Whittaker    At number two sits the Reaper himself, Robert Whittaker. If Silva was Franklins boogeyman, Adesanya was his as he would have had six title defenses by now and a 14-fight winning streak as well if the style bender didn't exist.
