2007 UFC Light Heavyweight Top 5 Rankings

 Post: UFC 79 - Nemesis

1. Thiago Silva

Thiago Silva may not have won nor fought Liddell nor Rampage for the title but what he did instead was remain undefeated stopping all three of his opponents, including Alexander who was coming off an upset of Jardine earlier that year.
2. Houston Alexander
Alexander debuted in a big way knocking out both Jardine and Alessio Sakara. But he then met undefeated, rising contender Thiago Silva who exposed his ground game to a ground and pound loss.
3. Keith Jardine
Jardine didn’t respect Alexander, feeling he deserved a better opponent after his Griffin win last year so he woke up face down knocked out. He would then be brought into a fight against Chuck Liddell as a tune up fight for him to get back on track. Instead he frustrated Liddell to an upset decision moving up to number three.
4. Forrest Griffin
Following his disappointing loss to Jardine last year, Griffin decided to fight more disciplined and measured which resulted in two wins this year against Hector Ramirez and the number one Pride import Shogun Rua.
5. Mauricio Rua
Shogun was the number one light heavyweight coming from Pride, but in a year of upsets, Griffin exposed his cardio and he blew out his knee on his way to a submission loss, dropping all the way to number five.
