2006 UFC Heavyweight Top 5 Rankings

Post UFC 66: Liddell vs. Ortiz 2

1. Tim Sylvia

Arguably the best year of his career, Sylvia regains the heavyweight title, going 4-0 that year, winning the trilogy with Arlovski in the process and regaining the number one spot.

2. Andrei Arlovski

Following a disappointing two straight losses to Tim Sylvia, the Pitbull rebounds before the year ends with a knockout win over Cruz.

3. Jeff Monson

Three straight wins in a row, including a win over Cruz, gets Monson a title shot, where Tim Sylvia’s reach was too much for him to handle.

4. Marcio Cruz

While he did not measure up to the rest of the ranked heavyweights, a win over Frank Mir returning from his motorcycle accident gets him the number four spot.

5. Brandon Vera

Undefeated Vera stopped all three of his opponents including former champion Frank Mir in the first round, earning him a spot in the top five.
