2005 UFC Light Heavyweight Top 5 Rankings

Post: UFC 56 - Full Force

1. Chuck Liddell

The Iceman finally claims the number one spot by timing successful strikes to knockout Couture and win the light heavyweight title. He would then avenge his first loss to Jeremy Horn in his first title defense solidifying his spot at the top.

2. Randy Couture

Couture drops to number two losing the rematch to proven knockout artist Liddell who gave him his first legitimate knockout. But it’s not all lost as he would rebound with a win over Mike Van Arsdale setting up a trilogy for next year.
3. Tito Ortiz
Ortiz made the most of his only fight of this year beating a credible opponent in a back and forth fight in Belfort. He would then call out former foes Liddell and Shamrock but neither would happen this year due to contract disputes with UFC president Dana White. But the quality win he got is still enough to jump to number three.
4. Vitor Belfort
The phenom's lone and final fight of his first UFC run was a split decision loss to the Bad Boy Tito Ortiz, a fight that he should have won had he not run out of gas. He would then fight for Pride, Strikeforce and Affliction before returning to the octagon.
5. Rich Franklin
Franklin’s lone light heavyweight fight was a TKO win over Ken Shamrock. That and his previous victories alone are enough to seal the number five spot. He would then drop down to middleweight to win and defend the title.
