2002 UFC Light Heavyweight Top 5 Rankings
Post: UFC 40 - Vendetta
1. Tito Ortiz
The Huntington Beach Bad Boy stayed inactive for the majority of this year, only fighting Ken Shamrock in what would be an impressive lopsided victory over the legend himself. Throughout the year, he claimed to have held out for better pay, others claimed he was ducking Liddell. Nonetheless he’s number one this year, breaking Frank Shamrock’s title defense record as well.
2. Evan Tanner
Tanner went back to his winning ways going 2-0 this year, with his lone loss being to Ortiz, he sits right behind him at number two.
3. Chuck Liddell
The Iceman had the best year in the UFC thus far going 3-0, including a win over Vitor Belfort and a head kick win over Babalu that had everyone wanting a title fight against Ortiz.
4. Kevin Randleman
Randleman had his last fight in the UFC before going to Pride, beating future title challenger Babalu, but with his loss to Liddell last year, I can only rank him so high.
