1997 UFC Light Heavyweight Top 5 Rankings

Post: UFC Japan - Ultimate Japan

1. Jerry Bohlander

Bohlander won the UFC 12 tournament beating both his opponents in just under two minutes of the first round each, proving why the lion's den was the best team in MMA at that time.

2. Guy Mezger

Mezger was one of two other Lion’s Den fighters ranked who won the UFC 13 tournament shortly after his teammate Bohlander did. This included a submission win over the future light heavyweight champion Tito Ortiz.

 3. Frank Shamrock

Shamrock made history winning the inaugural light heavyweight title by a quick submission over Olympian Kevin Jackson.
4. Kevin Jackson

The former Olympic gold medalist in freestyle wrestling won the UFC 14 tournament which earned him a chance to fight Shamrock for the inaugural light heavyweight title but Shamrock's experience proved to be too much for him.
5. Enson Inoue

The Shooto veteran only fought once in the UFC winning by submission in under two minutes. He was one fight away from the finals against Mezger but pulled out due to injury.
